Cheshmeh Khosh Oil Field

Cheshmeh Khosh Oil Field

The Cheshmeh Khosh Oil Field is one of the prominent oil fields in Iran, located in the Dasht Abas region of Ilam Province. It is situated approximately 52 kilometers south of Dehloran and 70 kilometers west of Andimeshk. This field plays a crucial role in Iran’s oil industry due to its substantial reserves and strategic location.

Historical Background of the Cheshmeh Khosh Field

Marker Green.png

The Cheshmeh Khosh field was discovered in 1964 (1343 in the Iranian calendar), and commercial production commenced in 1975 (1354 in the Iranian calendar). Since its discovery, the field has been a focal point for oil exploration and production in Iran. The Iranian government prioritized its development, implementing various phases of production enhancement through domestic and foreign technologies.

Production Capacity of the Cheshmeh Khosh Field

Currently, the Cheshmeh Khosh oil field has an average production capacity of 18,000 barrels of crude oil per day. In addition to oil, the field produces approximately 115 million cubic feet of natural gas daily. The crude oil extracted from this field is processed at the Cheshmeh Khosh operating unit and transported via a 153-kilometer pipeline to the Ahvaz 3 operational complex. Ultimately, the oil is sent to the Kharg Island terminal for refining and export, supplying refineries or international markets.

Oil Quality and Characteristics of Production in the Cheshmeh Khosh Field

The oil produced from the Cheshmeh Khosh field is characterized as high-quality crude oil, consisting primarily of light and medium crude, which is attractive for both domestic refining and international markets. Key characteristics of the oil include: 1. High API Degree: The oil has a favorable API gravity, classifying it as light oil, which is highly sought after for its ease of refining. 2. Optimal Chemical Composition: The chemical properties of the oil allow for efficient refining processes, yielding high-quality petroleum products. 3. Low Sulfur Content: The low sulfur levels in the crude oil contribute to cleaner emissions, making it environmentally friendlier compared to heavier crude oils. The high quality of the oil from the Cheshmeh Khosh field enhances its market value, providing significant economic benefits for Iran, especially in the context of international oil trade.
